Today, we'll be talking about the Rolex Datejust 31, made of steel, with white dial, Roman numeral hour markers, and a domed bezel on an oyster bracelet. Reference number 278240. This is a new 2020 model, which makes very slight improvements over previous generations. The case as denoted in its name, is 31 mm in diameter, just under 11 mm in thickness, and about 36.5 mm from lug to lug. And when I say 31 mm in diameter, that's from finger to thumb. The oyster steel casing is all throughout made with the monoblock, metal case, with a screw-down case back. And the winding crown to ensure waterproofness down to a 100 meters, or 330 feet. This bezel is the domed-style bezel, made out of oyster steel as well, to match the rest of the case for a very clean presentation. The crystal, as you can see is of a transparent, scratch-resistant sapphire, so there's no fear of suit threads or buttons damaging it. There is a cyclops lens directly over the date for easy reading at a glance. The dial on this model is white, set with Roman numeral hour marks in 18 karat white gold as well. Except for the 12 and three hour marks, which are taken by the Rolex crown logo and the date window respectively. The overall presentation is extremely clean with a slight art deco flair. With the use of Roman numerals encircled entirely in this chrome-like appearance. All right, and while we're here, we can also demonstrate the date and time setting functions. Simply unwind the crown to the first position, to where you can wind the watch. All right, the second position allows you to change the date by rotating the crown counterclockwise. And the date setting is actually very, very minute. So you only really need to rotate this about maybe like 30 degrees or so to advance the date by one each time. So if you're a time traveler, this is the watch for you. Finally, pull the watch crown to the final position, which then stops the seconds hand and allows you to then change the minute hand and by extension the hour hand, for precise timekeeping, all right. Be sure to press the crown back against the case and wind it tightly to ensure that superior water resistance, right. And perhaps the most important part of this watch and probably the only updated feature of this watch, would be the movement, which is the caliber 2236 made in-house by Rolex. It is perpetual, mechanical and self winding, with a plus or minus two-second-per-day time differential, exceeding Swiss standards of timekeeping. It allows for instant date setting with rapid setting and stop seconds for precise time setting, as I had just demonstrated. The oscillator is a syloxi hairspring in silicon, with patented geometry, and is complete with high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, meaning that this would effectively keep time in any sort of situation, be it temperature change or even bumps. Even crazy, hard bumps on your wrist, it will keep the time just fine. It also has the bi-directional self-winding, via a perpetual rotor. So you can effectively wind the watch simply by wearing it. The natural movements of your wrist will keep it wound and replenish to the 55 hour power reserve. And if you need to set it down on a Friday evening, you can then pick it back up on a Monday morning, and it'll be keeping time just fine. The bracelet on this model is the oyster-style bracelet, with flat three-piece links made of oyster steel. The middle links are high polished, while the outer links are the satin-finished brushed finish, while the outsides are polished as well. The underneath has a brushed presentation for a very nice, smooth feeling, as it goes around the wrist. This clasp is the folding oyster clasp, a signature feature. Which contains the easy link, five milimeter comfort extension link underneath. So here it is closed, and here it is open, all right. So in order to gain that extra five millimeters of extension, simply pull it out and there you go. This is to help your wrist, you know, essentially helping the watch to fit on your wrist depending on your hydration levels throughout the day, all right. And so we can try it on while we have this clasp open. And note that it's actually rather small on my wrist, about 7.5, 7.25 inches in circumference. And yeah, but that's not to say that it's not stylish at all. I imagine this would go very well with any dark suit or sleeve for that huge contrast between tint and shade, making this stand out very nicely. In say a white dress, this will blend in very nicely for elegance and modesty. And it's not until you get a closer examination that you really see the craftsmanship of this timepiece. And looking at this now, it's quite reminiscent of say like my grandfather's clock. But you know, shrunken down to a size smaller than a quarter of my wrist. You know, lending to that really, really excellent presentation. So who is this watch for? As this is a 31 mm Datejust, it's a watch generally marketed toward women and those with smaller wrists, but that's not to say that a man couldn't also wear this as well. Since the small size really keeps its form factor to a minimum, so you can go about your day very easily. Fits very nicely under a cuff or even a pocket, if you wear it closer to your hand.
